About Troy Bankord Design

Troy Bankord, Principal
Landscape Contractor/Environmental & Interior Designer

With over 25 years of experience in the environmental design industry, Troy Bankord is well recognized for his excellence in landscape and interior design, consultation, and project installations. His unparalleled talents and skillfulness have resulted in the development of some of the most unique and imaginative properties in Phoenix, Tucson, Palm Springs & Long Beach, CA, Las Vegas, the Midwest and the Desert southwest.

Coming from a family of contractors and interior designers, it became a simple and natural progression for him to assist clients with their homes, creating dramatic and organically continuous indoor and outdoor living spaces.

His projects are very tactile - intriguing all 5 of the senses. Whether they be rusty steel & recycled concrete (urbanite) or slick chrome & glass, the materials Troy utilizes in his project installations always exude a remarkable sense of sophistication. His spaces are warm and inviting, clean and organic. And yet, they are refined. Combining color and texture along with plant specimens, sculpture, art, flooring, artifacts and vessels, a unique ambience exudes every project he steps foot onto which he steps.

With an attention to detail, Troy Bankord and his team of knowledgeable professionals have completed some of the most challenging and acclaimed projects seen in years! These creations range from intimate, golf course and mountainside town homes to formal, European-style Estates and grand Mexican and Spanish-style haciendas; stylized, angular mid-century modern homes by Al Beadle, Ralph Haver, Jim Gresham and Blaine Drake set in their native surroundings to Tahitian and Zen-style homes nestled into niches on majestic Camelback Mountain. Troy was proudly chosen to spearhead the interior and exterior facelift of a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian residence in the Arizona Biltmore area.

Troy's practical approach with creative flair produces spaces that surprise and delight. His design philosophy is to work closely with clients to create personal spaces that reflect their needs and individual personalities in harmony with their location and to enlarge their entire living space by seamlessly melding the interior with the exterior. His versatility and appreciation of all styles of design lead one admirer to remark, "Regardless of the style, the living spaces he creates are all cool and compatible with the desert!" Another notes, "My wife and I have seen many of his projects and it's amazing how the principles of Feng Shui just come from within him so naturally... We marvel over the absolute harmony, perfection, and balance of his work. They are simply 'places of peace.'"

Troy celebrates diversity, and embraces each new project as an opportunity to embrace obstacles and limitations. He strongly believes that our surroundings directly influence our inner reality and balance and he is dedicated to creating enveloping indoor and outdoor living spaces which empower and nourish. He somehow evokes the personality of his clients, with that coming through in a cohesive way. His remarkable ability to interpret who they are and what it is they are seeking has become legendary. His knowledge and impeccable sense of design & style are visible in each completed project, and the details he brings to the table make each property very, very "special."

At a recent Garden Tour, one couple exclaimed, "This property has SUCH personality !!! We aren't even fans of mid-century modern design but we simply had to come back to experience it again! None of the other homes had the same wonderful feel that this garden does. None of them!" Another commented on Troy's unusual use of unexpected plantings, and loved his pairing of Agave next to Bearded Iris... the roses with the aloe... the surprising mix of plantings I would NEVER dream of putting together... And it WORKS! And so beautifully!!!" You never know what visions he will come up with, but you can rest assured it will be a dreamy success.

In addition to having been widely published locally & nationally, Troy penned the montly Design Solutions column for Phoenix Home & Garden magazine. In 2006, Troy was also given the prestigious honor of being named "Master of the Southwest" by Phoenix Home & Garden magazine. His degree in Broadcast Journalism has made him a natural for the TV segments on which he continues to be featured.

Considered by many as a "Tastemaker", Troy's zeal and commitment change the lives of his clients and transforms their surroundings into something that exceeds their expectations. His passion for life & lifestyle is apparent in every single thing he does.
